Perry Beeches v Thomas Estley

On Thursday 1st October Perry Beeches The Academy embarked on their first match in the ESFA National Cup with a game against Thomas Estley Community College, Leicester.

Thomas Estley have good standing within this competition as they have previously won the National Schools’ Cup. This was Perry Beeches first outing of the season with a new team of students made up from Years’ 7 and 8 out to prove that #thisgirlcan

The first half of the game was fairly tight with Beeches winning the midfield battle and Abbie Hyland breaking free on the wing on many occasions to put dangerous crosses into the box. Unfortunately, PBTA did not gamble on the ball across goal.

Thomas Estley used their experience and height winning the ball at the back and playing straight over the top. They scored two goals in quick succession in which the PB keeper had no chance.

The second half remained fairly tight with both sides having spells of good play with quick one touch passing. Thomas Estley used swift football to exploit the inexperience of the PB defence and were rewarded with a goal.

As the half progressed, Perry Beeches continued to press back Thomas Estley into their own half and were rewarded when Kelis Marks drive home from close range. Unfortunately, time was running out for PB and despite attacks from both corners and throw ins they were not able to capitalise on their dominant possession in the last 15 minutes.

The game finished 3-1 and was a superb display of football from both sides. Perry Beeches wish Thomas Estley all the best as they continue onto the next round. Surely with the rise of girls football here we will come back next year eager to prove that #thisgirlcan
