Glenthorne High School v Marshalls Park
Marshalls Park made the long trip to Sutton on Tuesday 6th October in the second round of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup National Competition.
Confidence was high following last week's win but Park looked nervy in the first 10 minutes. The long grass didn't help the style of football trying to be played.
A long ball from Glenthorne wasn't dealt with and their centre forward slotted past William Fisher in goal.
This prompted MPS to change their style of play and be more aggressive with the throw ball. Joel Bevan's long shot wasn't kept out by the Glenthorne keeper to draw level. Joshua Holmes then volleyed the ball home from a long cross to make it 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw MPS dominate possession and goals from Alfie Parrish (free kick) and Holmes made sure of the victory with Holmes chasing up the long shot for Ben Jones which came back off the bar.
It could have been a different story as before half time, William Fisher pulled off two fantastic saves. The first was from an indirect free kick 12 years out and the second save from a Glenthorpe penalty.
"Will Fisher kept us in the game. He made two amazing saves which took the pressure off us.
The boys now go in to round three of the Nationals. Hopefully we can maintain the good work ethic shown by the lads".
Thank you to Marshalls Park School, Havering for sending in their match report for this second round win. The team now await the third round draws to be made to find out who their next opponents will be.
