North Liverpool Academy v Walkden High School

Last Wednesday, the Year 9 Football team made the trip down the M62 to face North Liverpool Academy in the 1st round of the English Schools' Cup.

In the shadow of the famous Anfield Stadium, the boys were inspired by the surroundings to put in an impressive performance. The hosts started well and created early chances but couldn't find the target as Walkden were limited to scraps on the break. However, with 15mins gone, Luke Howarth's break and cross from the right wing was headed home at the back post by Tom Morris to make it 1-0.

Walkden doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Aaron Skinner's corner was met by Howarth who headed home at the back post. With a 2-0 advantage at the break, the boys knew the next goal was crucial, and it arrived midway through the second half. A training ground free kick routine saw Pascal Kpohomouh play in Aaron Skinner who poked the ball from inside the area to make it 3-0.

Skinner was then on hand to deliver a fourth when his mazy run and finish found the roof of the net to make it 4-0. With the home side looking deflated, Walkden played out the remaining minutes to secure a comfortable victory and a place in Round 2 where they will travel to Broughton High School from Preston next Wednesday 14th October.

Team: Brody Howell-Partington, Daniel Gavaghan, James Howarth, Pascal Kpohomouh, Liam Thornton, Aaron Skinner, Adam Hall, James Lindsay, Oliver Heron, Tom Morris, Luke Howarth, Josh Waring, Ben Barlow, Daniel Stone, Liam Mullen.

The ESFA would like to thank Mr Tobutt from Walkden High School for submitting this match report for their team’s first round win.
