It was a dream school day for pupils at Halewood Academy as Everton and England star Phil Jagielka made a surprise visit to support the second English Schools’ FA & PlayStation Schools’ Cup Tie of the Round roadshow of the season.

There was extra reason to celebrate for the school too, as their Under 14 football team came from 2-1 down to defeat Wellacre Academy and advance to the next round of the Under 14 PlayStation Schools’ Cup, following some warm up exercises with the Everton star.

Throughout the day in Liverpool, Phil Jagielka was a popular attraction as excited pupils got the chance to quiz the Everton captain as well as get photos and autographs. Close to 100 pupils packed out the school’s lecture theatre as Phil brought a wry smile to the face of Liverpool fans in attendance during the player/pupil Q&A, naming his injury time equaliser at Anfield last season as his most memorable career goal. This carried on the theme of last week’s roadshow featuring Juan Mata who named Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Anfield last season as his most memorable game!

Phil also took the time to warm-up with the Halewood team before their impressive comeback win, as well as taking on grassroots show Sky Sports Game Changers’ brand new challenge – keep an eye out on the show in the coming weeks!

Halewood Academy’s sports hall had a brand new look for the day as top performing pupils were treated to PlayStation gaming experiences featuring the newest titles. 16 pupils from the school vied for two places at next year’s PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival as part of a lunchtime FIFA 16 tournament and Year 11 student Alex Watson also got the chance of a lifetime as he was chosen to take on Phil on the popular football game!

Keep an eye out for details of Phil’s Q&A session which will appear on both the ESFA and PlayStation Schools' Cup websites in coming weeks!

We would like to thank Phil Jagielka and Everton Football Club for all their support, as well as a special thanks to Halewood Academy for hosting such a great occasion!

The next TOTR is scheduled for the week commencing 12th October...who do you think our next PS Schools' Cup ambassador will be for 2015/16!?
