Team heading to Danone Nations Cup World Finals in Morocco tomorrow!

The nation’s hopes of bringing back silverware this year are rested firmly on the shoulders of twelve 11 year olds from Leeds, who in the last week, have been preparing for their journey to the 45,000 seat capacity Stade de Marrakech to play in the 2015 Danone Nations Cup World Finals.

Leeds Schools’ FA U11’s team won the Inter-District leg of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup U11’s tournament earlier this year, which means they will now be representing England on the world stage.

The England team have been preparing for the finals this week at Manchester City FC’s old training facilities in the North West. The team were put through their paces by their two coaches and during their preparation, also played a friendly against Bury FC Academy, a game which they won, giving the team a good confidence boost before they start their tournament campaign. The World Finals will see them competing against teams from 31 other countries for the title of World Champions.

Josh Stones, captain of Team England said: "The team and I are really looking forward to representing England in Morocco and can't wait to put on our England kits. We are excited to play teams from around the world and hope we make everyone really proud."

Former Tottenham, Liverpool and England centre back John Scales, ambassador of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup said: “The team really benefited from getting together ahead of the World Finals, they are a fantastic bunch and have worked extremely hard to get where they are today. Hopefully the training and hard work pays off and they have a great experience in Morocco.”

Andrea Chilton, English Schools’ FA CEO said: “Congratulations to the U11 team from Leeds Schools’ FA on progressing to the Danone Nations Cup World Finals as the victors of the inter-district competition. This in itself is already a fantastic achievement and now the players have a great opportunity to show off their skills and to compete on an international stage. They travel with the best wishes for a successful trip from all here at the ESFA.”

The squad, who fly to Morocco on Wednesday 21st October had one last training session last Friday at Leeds FC’s Thorp Arch training facilities before flying off to face Portugal, Egypt and previous winners Mexico in their group stage.

Good luck from all of us here at the ESFA!!
