Impington 3-1 Goffs

The first semi-final in the Royal Air Force U16 Schools' Cup for Boys kicked-off at 12 noon today at RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton.

Impington Village College (Cambridgeshire) and Goffs School (Hertfordshire) were playing for a place in the final which will take place at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich Albion FC on Tuesday 9 May 2006.

Goffs got off to a flying start thanks to a first minute goal from team captain, Joe Selby. This goal looked to be enough to take Goffs to the final until a late equaliser for Impington courtesy of an Adam Dalby free-kick, which was converted from the edge of the box.

With no further goals added in normal time, the tie went extra time. A flying header from Julian Austin put Impington 2-1 up, before Lewis Trimmer secured a 3-1 win with a goal on the break as Goffs looked to get back into the tie.

Impington Team Manager, Nick Morley said, "This game had everything, a thrilling match. We kept going until the end and we now have a visit to The Hawthorns to look forward to"

St Margaret's 1-0 Verdin

The second tie in the boys' section of this competition kicked off at 3.00 pm this afternoon and was between St Margaret's School (Merseyside) and Verdin School (Cheshire).

This match was a tight affair which always looked like one goal could settle it. A free kick from Paul McManus was curled around the wall and the keeper into the corner of the net midway through the first half, to put St Margaret's 1-0 up. It proved to be the difference between the two sides as the Merseysiders managed to hang on to their one goal advantage to gain a place in the final.

St Margaret's Team Manager, Rob Kingston said, "I was impressed with how the losers handled defeat, it was such a close game. They probably should have deserved to win it"
