The Republic of Ireland Schoolboys got the victory they needed at the Stadium of Light on Friday night against England to capture the 2008 Centenary Shield.

John Mulroy of Moyle Park College Clondalkin scored the only goal of the contest on 39 minutes with a penalty goal after he was fouled inside the box.

England only needed to avoid defeat at the Stadium of Light and beat Scotland at Wembley on 26 April to win the Centenary Shield for a third consecutive season.

The Republic's victory in the Centenary Shield was an all round team performance. Sean Carr, Manager stated "all 20 players contributed to this year's success and I'm very proud of the effort and commitment of the lads over the course of the campaign".
