This season’s Under 13 Inter Association Trophy saw West Cornwall SFA take on Liverpool SFA travel to Edgar Street, home of Hereford United Football Club, to challenge for the National Trophy.

The game kicked off and it was West Cornwall who got the first attempt on goal. After just 4 minutes, William Trew forced the Liverpool goal keeper to rush out and save the ball.

As the first half progressed Liverpool started to pile on some pressure as they are given a corner and Regan Griffiths hits the ball just over the bar.

West Cornwall then made an excellent effort on goal and a Liverpool defender has to act fast and save the ball off of the line.

Liverpool ended the first half the stronger looking team as Joseph Lynch crossed the ball and Liam Murphy heads the ball just wide of the post.

The half then ended with both teams unable to find the first goal.

Liverpool then started the second half as they left off with a chance from Chadrac Kapenda who runs onto a through-ball but hits it just wide of the goal.

In the 41st minute of the game we saw the first goal. West Cornwall were awarded a free kick 2 yards from goal and Joel Allen stepped up to take. He hit the ball hard and into the top right of the goal to score West Cornwall’s first goal.

Liverpool could have been back on terms immediately as Joseph Lynch got the ball into the box again but Liam Murphy was inches away from connecting to it to put it into the net..

West Cornwall then got another chance with Theo Simpson as he turns into the box but the rushing Liverpool keeper got down to save the ball to stop them going 2 goals ahead.

West Cornwall were then pushing to double their lead as Jack Webber strikes but the Liverpool keeper saves the ball yet again.

With 5 minutes added time shown both teams were pushing and it was the next goal that was going to be the most important. This fell to West Cornwall in the last minute of added time. The ball was put forward and the Liverpool keeper came to collect the ball but Finn Cross manages to squeeze the ball under him to put into the net and put West Cornwall 2 up with seconds to play.

The referee then blew for full time to confirm that West Cornwall Schools’ FA were this season’s National Champions.

Both teams were presented with their medals by ESFA Council Member, Paul Rickard and the West Cornwall captain was presented with the National Trophy in front of the travelling West Cornwall fans.
