St Leonard's RC Comprehensive School

Today’s game took place at Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday FC, for the second kick off of the day seeing St Leonard’s RC Comprehensive School from Chester Le Street taking on St Ignatius College from Enfield.

The game kicked off with instant pressure from St Leonard’s as James Moore brings the ball in from the left wing and looks like he miss-hits the ball, but it loops up into the air and lobs the goal keeper to put them ahead with only 6 minutes on the clock.

St Ignatius started putting on pressure and after 20 minutes Marvin Offiah hits the post after the keeper in the St Leonard’s goal makes a save pushing it onto the post.

A few minutes pass and it is still St Ignatius getting the chances after two throw ins are awarded and Liam Andrew’s long throw causes problems for the St Leonard’s defence.

St Leonard’s were nearly 2 up on the half hour mark as Elliott Embleton gets a free kick just outside the area but sends it wide of the post.

St Leonard’s then get another chance to score before half time with Elliott Embleton making a quick counter attack, but the St Ignatius keeper comes out to collect but gets hurt by this which ends the first half.

The half time score was 1-0 to t Leonard’s RC Comprehensive School.

St Ignatius came out stronger after half time with another long throw by Liam Andrews and Marvin Offiah heading it straight at the keeper.

One minute later and St Ignatius are back on level terms as Liam Andrews swaps his throwing skills for his shooting skills as he hits the ball from the half way line and the St Leonard’s keeper miss judges the bounce which sees the ball loop over him and into the back of the net.

3 minutes from this and St Leonard’s get the lead again from Elliott Embleton’s free kick. The referee awarded a free kick 25 yards out and Elliott stepped up to take this. He hit it hard and straight which went past the wall and into the right of the goal.

St Ignatius could have been back level again as there were 2 point blank headers from Eoin McKeown and Marvin Offiah heading but sending it wide after a mix up between goal keeper and defender for St Leonard’s.

St Ignatius kept pushing for the equaliser but St Leonard’s held on until full time which saw their team run onto the pitch in celebration of the full time whistle.

Both teams were presented with their medals by ESFA Chairman, Neil Pont, and the St Leonard’s captain was presented with the trophy and crowned National Champions for 2012/13.
