Liverpool SFA crowned champions for 2012

On a damp and overcast Friday afternoon South London and Liverpool Under 13 teams were the guests of Crystal Palace Football Club as they played out their Inter Association National Final at Selhurst Park in front of several hundred enthusiastic supporters.

Throughout the game both sides served up some excellent football. From the start South London pressed hard and had a handful of early chances to score. It was probably against the run of play that Liverpool took the lead after 20 minutes. Having been awarded a free-kick on the edge of the South London penalty area Callum Levy took full advantage as he curled his effort over the defensive wall and the South London keeper into the top of the net. The 1-0 lead lasted until half-time.

The second half saw South London press for an equaliser but Liverpool, becoming increasingly confident, broke away after 62 minutes with Lewis netting with a neat finish. Liverpool looked to be playing out time with skipper Kevin Cringle marshalling his defence superbly but right on time Taylor Moss added a third goal to complete a comprehensive victory for the visitors.

At the post-match ESFA function Crystal Palace Chief Executive, Phil Alexander, was thanked for making the pitch and facilities available to the ESFA for this Final. In return he told the lads of his playing days with the ESFA when he had skippered the Under 18 International team.
