Trinity School’s girls made up for the disappointment of last season’s squad who lost in the East Midlands Area Finals by coming from behind to win this season’s final and qualify for the National Finals.

The fifteen teams were divided into three groups; in Group A, South Charnwood and Kimberley dominated with their only points dropped coming in the 0-0 draw between the two sides. South Charnwood narrowly won the group on countback as the two sides were level on points and goal difference but the Coalville side scored one more goal.

Three teams contested the qualifying places from Group B with the second place this time settled on goal difference. Beauchamp Leys School took the top place with victories over Northampton, Healing and The Deepings although they surprisingly went down to Merrill School whose 3-2 victory was their only one of the tournament. Healing finished in second place with seven points, the same as Northampton School for Girls but with a goal difference of +4 against +3.

Trinity started well In Group C with a 5-1 win over St. Bede’s (Scunthorpe SFA) and beating John Fernley, the North Leicestershire representatives. 3-2. They were then held to a 2-2 draw by Cottingham but made no mistake in their final match, beating Manor (Wellingborough & Rushden SFA)) 5-0 to take the qualifying place with John Fernley in second.

With the winners of each group going through to the semi-finals, the fourth place was determined by the side with the best runners-up record which was Kimberley so the semi-finals produced on all Nottinghamshire clash and one all- Leicestershire.

The latter was a close affair which South Charnwood just edged 3-2 but in the other game, Trinity proved too strong for Kimberley and won 3-0.

In the final, Charlotte Brewer gave South Charnwood the lead and with their goalkeeper handling well, they held on against the skilful Trinity side until two quick goals from Eve Hook took her side to the national last eight as they won 2-1.

The winning Trinity squad was: Emma Thomas, Charlotte Allbass-Martin, Lechanti Amos, Chloe Tuohy, Maja Szrumourska, Medina Evans, Eve Hook.

Final: Trinity (Nottingham) 2-1 South Charnwood (Coalville)

The final will take place on Monday 9 March at the Derby Powerleague
