Barking & Dagenham PSFA celebrate cup success

Jay Bacon’s phenomenal goal scoring exploits led Barking & Dagenham PSFA’s cup success at Chelsea Football Club’s training ground, on Saturday 21 April, as the youngsters from Essex were crowned champions of the Tesco Under 11 Inter Association Trophy for 2012.

Barking & Dagenham topped Group A with two 3-0 wins against Northampton and Redcar & Cleveland, despite losing to Poole & East Dorset, 2-1, in their opening match.

In Group B, Plymouth and Chester were the successful teams as they progressed into the Semi-Finals with 7 and 5 points, respectively.

The Semi-Finals saw Barking and Dagenham beat Chester 1-0 after extra time, thanks to a strike from Riddick Kankam. Plymouth also had a similar close encounter in the other Semi-Final, as they scraped past Poole & East Dorset, thanks to a solitary strike from Bailey Gamble.

In the final, Barking & Dagenham saw of the challenge of Plymouth in slightly more comfortable circumstances, thanks to goals from Sonny Scott and Jay Bacon, which secured a 2-0 victory. Jay Brown’s strike was his sixth of the afternoon which ensured he finished as the tournament’s top goal scorer

ESFA Council Member, Phil Harding, was on hand to present the trophy in the Chairman’s absence.

A big thank you is given to Tesco; their support of this tournament throughout the season has been invaluable, and has no doubt, contributed to another successful season.
