Newly formed ESFA U18 Schoolboys squad will prepare for their first friendly match of 2016-17
Following this season’s Under 18 International selection process, the newly formed ESFA U18 Schoolboy squad is set for a weekend of training and their first International friendly against Australia on 28 January at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
Following in the footsteps of former ESFA players like Manchester United and England’s Chris Smalling, the final squad of sixteen will travel to Lilleshall for Friday 27 January, in preparation for their match scheduled for Saturday 28th, KO 11am.
England U18s last played Australia in February 2015 at Stafford Town FC’s Evans Park, which ended with a 2 – 1 win to Australia after 95 minutes of play. The highlights of the match are available to watch online here, courtesy of 247.TV.
Our 2014-15 England Squad last played Australia at Stafford Town FC
Whilst the match won’t be streamed live this year, spectators are welcome to attend to catch a first glimpse of the new squad before their Centenary Shield debut away to Scotland at St Mirren on the 3 March. There will be no charge for entry for the upcoming Australia match and all spectators are welcome.
Our International squads are made up, simply, of the best Schools' Football players in England. Players must already represent their County and be nominated by their local County Schools' FA based on their skills and talent. All players then face the trials process in order to make it through to the England squad. It is an honour for these pupils to represent their Country at this level and furthermore, a privilege for the ESFA to reward, for choosing to remain in mainstream education whilst playing football as opposed to opting to join an academy. The ESFA's values are firmly rooted in an educational approach to football and this is a great way to celebrate those players that have made the decision to ensure they have a solid foundation of qualifications to support them, wherever their football career may take them.
We look forward to welcoming all spectators for the match and wish our team all the best in the season ahead!
