Taunton’s first fixture at U13 in a National Cup match against West Cornwall ends with a loss but a fantastic experience for the team!

Our first fixture as an U13 side vs West Cornwall in the Nationals. We were extremely unfortunate not to get something from the game, as the players performed really well for their first outing.

Our Bridgwater & Taunton College changing rooms housed both teams before kick off on The Castle School 3G where a good number of parents attended the match. Both sides had a few minutes to settle before West Cornwall took the lead with a powerful run and finish from their striker.

Adjusting Taylor Powell to deal with this threat was required and shortly after the impressive Jack Hemmings brought the sides level. Latching onto a good midfield pass Jack struck a dipping shot up and over the West Cornwall keeper. Both teams enjoyed a few moments in the following ten minutes before West Cornwalls left midfielder got to much space and looped a strike over the impressive Nathan Dimond.

However this young team weren't deterred as Jacob Schock brought the teams back level with a delightful finish of the quick silver Travis Yule Turners cross. Having brought themselves level it was a touch disappointing to concede just before the break - the powerful striker was afforded a little too much time and struck home.

In the second half TDSFA pushed continuously for the leveller. The midfield of Chapman, Chubb & Adams grew into the game and started to get more ball, plus the backline dealt with threats far better.

Arguably TDSFA created more of chances but either a snatched shot, a simple pass to a partner or a good save thwarted the team.

In all not the result, but a good first game together and with a few areas adjusted could bear fruit in future fixtures.

A big thank you to our main supporters BTC, The Castle School, Taunton Morrisons for the after match refreshments, Kevin Powell for helping the warm up and Ashton Norie, Callum McGrath, Harry Butler who again make the association so proud by helping out.

The ESFA would like to congratulate Taunton on their first U13 match and also congratulate West Cornwall on their win – the team have beaten Caerphilly SFA this weekend (10th) and now progress to Round 4 of the PlayStation U13 Inter Association Schools’ Cup for Boys!
