Having recently reached a significant personal milestone of 50 caps for England, Gary Cahill made it a day to remember when he visited Therfield School in Leatherhead in support of the English Schools’ FA (ESFA) PlayStation Schools’ Cup.

Now in its fourth season, the ESFA PlayStation Schools’ Cup is the biggest schools’ football tournament in England, featuring over 150,000 competing school children since 2013.

On a sunny day in Leatherhead, Gary Cahill’s towering presence was felt throughout the school as excited pupils got the chance to quiz the Chelsea defender as well as get photos and autographs with the player. Close to 100 pupils packed out the school’s gym as Gary brought wide smiles to the faces of the Chelsea fans in attendance during the player/pupil Q&A, naming his volleyed goal against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart lane as his most memorable career goal in a Chelsea shirt.

Gary Cahill also took the time to meet both teams prior to a Year 9 football fixture between Therfield and their local opposition Priory School, as well as taking on grassroots show Sky Sports Game Changers’ brand new challenge. Gary Cahill also competed in a real life footballing challenge involving YouTubers Burnt Chip and DMX who proved hugely popular with the students of Therfield. Two pupils from Therfield School were given the honour of fronting up the Gary Cahill interview for the popular CBBC Match of the Day Kickabout football programme.

Therfield’s sports hall played host to a PS4 gaming zone which was acting as a reward for the top performing pupils. 16 pupils from the school vied for two places at next year’s PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival as part of a lunchtime FIFA 16 tournament and Harvey Harrington also got the chance of a lifetime as he was chosen to take on Gary Cahill on the popular football game!

We would like to say a big thank you to Gary Cahill for being such a great inspiration for grassroots football. Our appreciation also extends to Therfield School for hosting the first PlayStation Schools’ Cup roadshow of the season and finally to the PlayStation Schools’ Cup for their constant support of all ESFA U12 – U15 Schools’ Cup competitions!

The next PlayStation Schools’ Cup Tie of the Round event will take place on Tuesday in Merseyside, with a special appearance from an Everton star – follow @SchoolsFootball and @PSSchoolsCup on Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram to keep up to date with all the PlayStation Schools’ Cup excitement for this season!
