The Bishop Thomas Grant U16 Girls Football Team from Streatham have progressed through to the Second Round of the National Cup after an emphatic 10-1 win away at the Royal Docks Community School. Bishop Thomas Grant made a bright start to the game with an array of shots on the opponents goal. The deadlock was broken in the 9th minute with a fabulous 25 yard strike from Rebecca. Bishop Thomas Grant continued to apply the pressure on their opponents with Rebecca tormenting the opponents left back with endless step overs before providing a pin-point cross to Jasmin, who chested the ball down and volleyed the ball into the goal. The two goal lead didn’t stop the girls as they were straight on the attack and had a succession of chances before adding a third and then a fourth after Amanda was put through one on one and tucked away the chance.

The half finished 4-1, with the Royal Docks Community School stringing together a fine move to score a goal in the shadow of the famous Olympic ExCel building.

The second half started in exactly the same vein as the first half ended, with the Royal Docks Community School continuing to dominate, however the Bishop Thomas Grant Defence remained strong with Kanisha putting in some tremendous tackles. Bishop Thomas Grant School once again got back to their attacking ways and countered from a corner where Jasmin emulated Gareth Bale by dribbling the ball from her own box round several players and putting the ball in the net off the post. This gave the girls added confidence with Jaida getting on the scoresheet when put through on goal. Matylda also felt the need to get in on the action and scored two goals in the space of two minutes.

The girls played some incredible football especially towards the end where Megan dominating the midfield. Hopefully the girls will take this confidence into the next round.

Goal Scorers:

Rebecca - 3
Jasmin – 3
Matylda – 2
Jaida – 1
Amanda - 1
