England 2 Scotland 1

Centenary Shield in conjunction with inspireSport

Fleetwood Town FC

After a frantic first ten minutes in which England had the early chances, the game slowed with both sides finding it hard to create anything in the lashing rain. England had more possession of the ball but couldn't muster a shot on goal despite the attacking flair of Joe Thomas playing just off the strikers and Aaron Smith's strong running down the left wing.

As the half ended both teams looked relatively happy to be going in goalless.

Half time 0-0

England carved open the first goal after an incisive breakaway with Smith slotting home after Shonibare's cross found him free in the penalty area.

As Scotland were awarded a corner in the 65th minute they manage to fire the ball goal ward and as it skidded through two England defenders on the line ended up in the back of the net.

Both teams had chances to win the game as Wisson fired over after a lovely attacking move from England.

The Scots looked dangerous also as their keeper continued to shell the ball long and ask questions of the England centre backs.

As Scotland eventually sunk deeper toward their own goal, England launched the ball in from a throw in and as it was played back out to Aaron Smith at the corner of the 18 yard box he chipped a delightful shot toward the back post lobbing the keeper to put England ahead.

As the last few minutes ticked down England kept the ball well and with the sound of the final whistle England moved onto 9 points in the competition and one step closer to centenary shield victory.
