2014-15 U18 Colleges' Champions - Gateshead College

We are thrilled that Burton Albion FC will be hosting our ESFA U18 Colleges' and Schools' Cups for Girls', which take place on Wednesday 16 March 2016 and this year, the event will become an extra special celebration of Girls' Football!

To support the ESFA's launch of Girls' Football Week, these two all-girl finals will be the pinnacle of our celebrations, marking the importance of supporting the rise and continuation of girls' football within schools. The U18 Girls' Cup for Colleges' will be our first match of the day, kicking off at 12pm and seeing Accrington & Rossendale College take on Solihull College for the coveted title. The second match, with a 4:30pm kick off, will see Thomas Telford School take on the John Madejski Academy to become the U18 Schools' National Champions.

To support our finalists in their last matches of the season, we are planning to enlist local ballgirls and we have also secured an appearance from a Womens Superleague Player to support the stadium event. Furthermore the matches will be broadcast live online by 247.TV via our ESFA YouTube channel and we plan to secure female co-commentators to report live on all the action!

And there's more! To further promote girls' football for schools', the ESFA are also holding some fantastic events in and around Burton to engage as many teams as possible in the sport, which we hope will encourage even greater participation. Twelve local schools have been invited to take part in festivals at St Georges' Park, which will give them the opportunity to improve their skills and also attend Burton Albion to watch the National Finals and receive participation awards on the pitch at half time.

Further still, we also have opportunities available for other schools to get involved in the events of the day! Thanks to the FA's partnership with Continental Tyres, we will be hosting girls' football festivals at Burton Albion FC throughout the day between 10am and 4pm which will include;

  • Inflatable pitch
  • Speed cage
  • Target shoot and a
  • Freestyle workshop

All girls that take part in these festivals at the ground will also receive free entry into the stadium to watch either of the Girls' National Finals and help cheer the teams on to become ESFA National Champions! To take part, teams must register using this form and returning it to Andy Weston by Thursday 10 March 2016.

We will also be using the event to mark the start of our new partnership with She Kicks magazine, who will be working with us to provide magazine offers to our member schools and associations and help us to promote the good work the ESFA carries out in relation to girls’ football.

We are thrilled to be able to host such a fantastic array of girls' football focussed events, thanks to our colleagues at Burton Albion, The FA and Continental Tyres. Tickets to attend the matches are available to purchase on the day for only £2 children and £4 adults, with free entry to Burton Albion FC season ticket holders.

If you are unable to make it to the stadium, then you won't miss a second of the action by subscribing to our YouTube channel and watching both of the National Finals live online and for free! You can get involved with all the interaction via the ESFA Twitter account and keep up to date on the go by downloading Club App for free on your smart phone or device and following the English Schools' FA!

We would like to wish the best of luck to all four competing teams and look forward to truly celebrating Girls' Football on March 16th.
