Last weekend, 34 England Schoolboy hopefuls attended the Lilleshall National Sports Centre to compete in the final selection weekend for our U18 England Schoolboys’ Squad. Having taken part in several preliminary trials, the boys faced two matches against the RAF and Navy, while showcasing their abilities in the hope of being selected to represent their country this season.
ESFA U18 v Royal Air Force
In the pleasant, sunny conditions a keenly contested match ended in a narrow victory for the ESFA Under 18 lads at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre. The ESFA squad were the better team in the first half and went ahead in the 10th minute when Matthew Bentley scored from close range following a right-wing cross. Although going close on a couple of further occasions the ESFA failed to add to their narrow lead. In fact the RAF could well have levelled the scores on several occasions in the second half, goalkeeper Dan Lawrence pulling off several vital saves. However, the ESFA boys held their nerve to record what was a moral-boosting win in their opening match of thenew season.

ESFA U18 v Royal Navy
Played in a constant downpour the ESFA Under 18 lads recorded a comfortable victory at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre over a Royal Navy side. The ESFA squad were the better team from start to finish. The ESFA U18 side took the lead after 23 minutes when Sam Thornton headed home following early ESFA pressure. Two minutes later the ESFA doubled their lead when Joe Thomas fired home following the Navy goalkeeper's miskick.
The Navy were all at sea in the second half conceding four further goals. Sam Lawn scored from the penalty spot following a trip on Joe O'Hare. Adam Grange added a 4th before a Joe O'Hare brace completed a competent all-round performance.
ESFA 6 – 0 Royal Navy
We are very pleased to announce below the selected squad to represent on behalf of the England Schoolboys’ squad this season. The team will be competing in the inspiresport Centenary Shield, with two home matches arranged to be played at Fleetwood Town FC on Friday 1 April and The New Saints FC on Friday 8 April.
