St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College v St John Fisher Catholic High School

St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Caused a massive shock by beating St John Fisher 4 - 0 in the last 32 of the English Schools FA Cup.

The game kicked off just as the wind and rain had disappeared, the first 10 minutes were a cagey affair with both sides trying to impact the game. Jacob McLoughlin, who started brightly burst through and lashed a shot from outside the 18 yard box in the bottom of the net.

Louis Fialdini jumped in almost instantly after with a rasping rebound shot after a good effort from Jacob Slator to make it 2-0. That was Louis's 10th goal of the season! Then as Jacob McLoughlin fizzed a low hard cross across the box where Harris Iqbal leaped on the end and poked it home.

At half time, the boys came in with a 3-0 nil lead but we defended outstandingly well, controlled the ball when we had it and looked a threat up front.

The second half saw St. John Fisher tighten up but they couldn't stop an outstanding effort from Harris Iqbal finding the net after a quality first touch to pluck the ball out of the air.

The game finished 4 - 0, and on paper looks like a routine win. Believe me, any school that gets to the last 32 of this competition is a good side and St John Fisher were a really good side but these boys work well together and show resilience.

The ESFA would like to thank St Bede’s and St Joseph’s school for submitting their match report from this exciting game, they now progress to play Blessed Trinity RC College from Burnley in the sixth round of the competition.
