Grange Primary School in Stirchley, Telford received a pack of footballing goodies from the ESFA this week, following their participation in Girls’ Football Week back in October.

After finding out about the initiative, teachers at the school decided to organise an event to really promote girls’ football and decided to hold their own ‘Girls’ Football Day’ on Friday 9 October. The day was filled with skill development games for the pupils and ended with a mini tournament for the girls to participate in. Over 150 girls took part in the event and the school have not only received excellent feedback on activities but also enquiries from parents and children regarding contacting local football clubs for the girls’ to continue with the game.

Prior to the event, Grange Park ran a football club in which 15 girls attended however, since the Girls’ Football Day attendance at the club has more than doubled with 35 girls now regularly participating. The school were also able to field a team in their first ever Year 4 Girls’ football match last Thursday.

Lee James, Sports Coach at the school said:

‘Girls’ Football Week inspired us to run our own girls’ football day and we were delighted with the amount of girls that took up the opportunity to play. We are sure that this day has also inspired our girls to take part in football in the future’

The ESFA asked schools involved in the Girls’ Football Week event to contact us via Twitter to let us know how they were supporting girls in their school. It was clear to us that Grange Primary School were clearly working hard to really develop the game at the primary level and were certainly deserving recipients of footballing merchandise for their children to use and to help continue with this development of their players.

Thank you to Grange Park for sharing their experience with us and we wish them well in all of their upcoming football events!
