The England Under 15 Schoolgirls’ squad played the second game of their inspiresport tour in the shadow of one of the world’s most iconic football stadiums, the Estádio da Luz, in the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon. It was an experience that the girls are unlikely to ever forget. The magnificent 4G pitch is sited next to the main entrance to the ground.

The opposition, wearing Benfica’s famous red shirts, were no match, however, for the England team who have grown as a squad on and off the pitch on their tour of Portugal. It took only 2 minutes of the match before Leonie Hutchinson opened the scoring from close range.

Two goals in two minutes followed from Sophie Charlton and Leonie Hutchinson again in the 27th and 28th minutes, before Charlotte Newsham netted, rounding off a fine move from defence to attack. Just before half-time Sophie Charlton added her second goal, leaving the visitors with a comfortable 5-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Team Manager Miranda Hall, ensured that the entire squad had time on the pitch. Libby Smith, Maddie Brant and Phoebe Warner added goals making the final score 8-0 to the ESFA.

Later in the evening there was another fantastic experience for the squad, a question and answer session with England International legends, Rachel Brown-Finnis (85 caps) and Rachel Yankey (129 caps). This was yet another high point of a magnificent week away for the girls, just to be mixing on a daily basis and in training with these two players who have done so much for the female football game in England.
