Mike Spinks - Chairman

As you know, John Read, ESFA Chief Executive, made the decision to retire from his post last November. At the same time, he relinquished his position on the FA Council.

Over the weekend of January 25/26th, the ESFA Council met in Stafford to consider the appointment of a new Chief Executive. Plans are afoot for advertisements to be placed with appropriate media outlets in the very near future. In the first instance, please look out for details of the post on the ESFA website.

We hope that our new leader will be in a position to take up his or her post next summer.

In the meantime, I have stepped into John Read’s role as an FA Council member and I will be fulfilling this role as a short-term measure, so that the ESFA has a voice at the top table.

Over the coming weeks, I have meetings scheduled with the other major bodies in the whole of football in this country, The Premier League, Football League and the Professional Footballers Association.

Next month, on Friday 27 February, sees our first schools’ International of the 2014/15 season. We are taking our Under 18 squad to Truro to play Wales and to join in the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Cornwall FA and Truro City Football Club. At the same time, our colleagues from the Cornwall Schools Football Association are celebrating their Centenary.

Our second schools’ International this season will be the following Friday, 6 March, when we are hosting Northern Ireland Under 18s at Eastleigh Football Club in Hampshire. Here is the link if you wish to order tickets for the Eastleigh match.
