St Michaels CE High School v Denton Community College

Adam Henson, of St Michaels CE School kindly sent us the following match report after witnessing what he described as a very ‘exciting game’…

‘Denton Community College went 3-0 up within twenty minutes of the fixture and it looked very negative for St Michaels, who did managed to score a goal late in the second half, against the run of play, making the score 3-1 entering half time.

The second half was a fierce battle, with fantastic football played from both sides. With approximately 15 minutes to go until the final whistle, St Michaels grabbed another goal to make it 3-2. It looked like they were getting back in the game, but Denton scored against the run of play to make it 4-2. Resilience and character brought St Michaels back into the game with 10 minutes to go, when a wonderful counter attack was capped off by a superb strike, making it 4-3. In the last minute an excellent solo effort brought the tie back to 4-4.

In injury time, St Michaels took forward the momentum and managed to make the score 6-4. From being 3-0 down, this was a fantastic spectacle to watch. Both teams competed well and sheer character was the deciding factor between the two evenly matched sides.’

The ESFA certainly agree that this sounded like an excellent display of schools’ football, at its best.
