PlayStation have once again teamed up with the English Schools’ Football Association to launch a second season of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup, now with 19 different formats of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup across different categories. Sky Sports’ Soccer AM programme helped announce the new season of the competitions on their opening show of the new series.

Following the success of last year’s Tie of the Round roadshows, the format has been reintroduced for this new season. Each event includes;

  • PlayStation Gaming Zone
  • Professional Football Coaching Sessions
  • Premiership Player Appearance
  • Finale of a PlayStation Schools’ Cup Fixture

So far there has been three successful opening Tie of the Round events in St Albans, and two in Manchester, supported by Aaron Ramsey, James Milner and Luke Shaw along with Andreas Pereira, respectively. The players proved to be excellent ambassadors for PlayStation, taking part in;

  • Player and pupil Q&A sessions
  • Player warm up session and team photos
  • Signing sessions
  • Playing pre-selected pupils at a game of the PS4 Fifa 15
  • Media programme and photo shoots

PlayStation and the ESFA have received excellent feedback following these events so far. Paul Ogden, Head of Sport at the East Manchester Academy said of their event;

‘The staff, pupils and governors were blown away with the smooth running of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup event and the fantastic experience it provided to our community’.

Media and Press Coverage

The events have been well advertised via both PlayStation and ESFA’s social media channels, with both seeing an increase in Twitter and Facebook activity following the events. This even included Aaron Ramsey and Luke Shaw tweeting about their appearances on their own Twitter and Facebook accounts.

There has been impressive media coverage of these events with online and print articles as well as interviews and TV features across various outlets such as;

  • The Sun, Daily Mirror and The Independent
  • Soccer AM
  • talkSPORT
  • Newsround
  • Sky Sports Game Changers

Together with PlayStation, the next Tie of the Round event will be taking place during the week commencing 17 November, with two more to come before Christmas. We are already looking forward to these events and the support we receive as a result of them.
