ESFA chief executive, John Read, congratulating Robert Windle in the gardens of Buckingham Palace on his Grassroots Hero Award. Robert, the ESFA official photographer, was presented the award by the Duke of Cambridge, as part of the Football Association’s 150 Year Anniversary celebrations.

Over 150 volunteers and delegates were specially invited to Buckingham Palace this week to celebrate their continued support and development of the game.

They were in for quite a treat and could lay claim to having the hottest ticket in town as the Royal Palace hosted a live football match on the Queen's lawn for the specially invited guests to view.

The event was particularly special for the ESFA as it was attended by our Chief Executive, John Read and our official photographer, Robert Windle, who was recieving an award for his services of volunteering and development of grassroots referees.
