Walkwood v Ashton on Mersey

Walkwood have reached the semi final of the ESFA Under 13 national cup by defeating Ashton on Mersey School from Trafford this afternoon.

On a blustery afternoon that made good football difficult on the Walkwood pitch the visitors went ahead when they scored direct from a corner after 6 mins.

It took the Redditch school just five minutes to equalise through a well worked Matt Smith goal and after 15 minutes they went in front through Jack Nicholls and this was the score at half time.

Walkwood were the better side for much of the game but were unable to increase their lead despite the advantage of the wind in the second half.

The visitors pushed forward and with just one minute left they forced an equaliser.  At this stage one would have thought that the Walkwood heads would drop but from the restart they pushed forward forced a corner and from it Jack Nicholls scored his second goal of the game.

There was just time for the school from Trafford to kick off before the referee blew for full time.

Walkwood now face a very long journey north to Gateshead to meet St Thomas More Catholic School in the Semi Final.
