The game kicked off on a very windy day on a beautiful flat pitch at Laurence Jackson School.

Both teams found the conditions difficult in the opening minutes as the swirling wind threatened to spoil any chance of good football.

Laurence Jackson began to show early promise and went in to the lead in the 10th minute when a through ball from Ellie Beckett sent Korede Akintoye racing clear of the visitors defence to score with a cool finish.

Arnold Hill tried hard to force their way back in to the game but the Laurence Jackson defence was holding firm.

In the 20th minute Laurence Jackson increased the lead with a carbon copy of the first goal when again a neat through ball sent Korede Akintoye through to score her second goal of the game.

The visitors were stung in to action and grabbed a lifeline just on half time when Molly Clifford held off challenges from the home defenders to slot the ball past goalkeeper Lucy Harvey.

Half Time Score – Laurence Jackson School 2, Arnold Hill Academy 1.

With the wind becoming stronger as the game went on, conditions were difficult for both sides as the second half got underway. It was the home side who increased their advantage in the 50th minute with a brilliant 20 yard strike from Captain Charlotte Agar.

With a two goal lead Laurence Jackson were sensing that they had one foot in the final, but Arnold Hill refused to give up and began to increase the pressure on the home defence.

A great run down the left wing by Arnold Hill Captain Laura Meynick resulted in her shot being saved by Lucy Harvey before she followed up to score from the rebound.

With 10 minutes remaining things were looking tense for the home side as Arnold Hill pushed for an equaliser.

With two minutes of the game remaining Laurence Jackson launched an attack, a quick turn in the penalty box by Korede Akintoye, resulted in the striker being brought down a penalty kick was awarded.

Charlotte Agar stepped up to power the penalty home and secure Laurence Jackson a place in the final at Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium against Queens School from Watford on Wednesday May 15th.
