England battled hard but only managed a draw in the end

Following a fine 2-0 result and a good performance against Northern Ireland, the ESFA under 15 girls took on the Republic of Ireland in game number two of the Bob Doherty Cup.

England dominated the early play, forcing the goalkeeper into a good stop from a free kick and Georgia Stanway placing a shot just wide.

The Republic staged their own attacks during the first half, but were continually thwarted by good defending from a solid back four and in particular, one fantastic last-ditch tackle from Charlotte Steggles when the striker just had Chloe Beattie to beat.

Finally, after 15 minutes, England's quality paid off with a fine move resulting in Georgia splitting the defence with a pin point pass to Natasha Fenton, who finished confidently, giving England a well deserved 1-0 lead.

The Republic went close just before half-time, when a long range shot cannoned of England's crossbar, which turned out to be the last action of the first half.

The second half saw the game turn into a midfield battle with both teams showing real desire with chances becoming few and far between. The Republic of Ireland did go close, with Chloe Beattie making a fine stop down at the feet of the striker and England having a shot blocked from Holly Gibson.

As the game drew to a close, The Republic of Ireland continued to apply pressure, trying to get something out of the game and in stoppage time they were awarded a corner. The corner was brilliantly delivered and went straight into the England goal. It turned out to be the last kick of the game and a heartbreaker for England.

Final score: England 1 - the Republic of Ireland 1.
