Action from the festival at Chigwell School
Chigwell School hosted an Under 9 football festival for 120 pupils from local primary schools on Friday 15th June. The event was run in conjunction with the English Schools Football association and Tesco. Schools taking part included Chigwell Primary, Christchurch Primary, St Anthony's Primary, Loyola Prep, Woodford Green Prep and Avon House School. The pupils were coached by the Essex FA skills coaches and then played both 4v4 and 5v5 matches. The matches were overseen by a group of pupils from Eastbury Comprehensive School in Barking who were extremely impressive in their coaching of the pupils throughout the day. The expected bad weather didn't materialise and a brief heavy shower did stop the fun only for a few minutes, but a great day’s football was had by all pupils.
The ESFA will be staging 8 festivals around the country in a bid to provide young children with a positive first experience of football at the Year 3 and 4 age group. The emphasis is on fun, fair play and skill.
