Cardinal Heenan Sports College (Liverpool SFA) achieved an impressive double yesterday afternoon at Colchester United FC, as they overcame Eastbury Comprehensive School (Barking & Dagenham SFA, 3-1 on penalties, to lift the ESFA Under 13 Schools’ Cup for Boys.

The win meant that the Merseyside based school have been crowned national champions at both the Under 12 and Under 13 age group this season.

Cardinal Heenan took the lead on 27 minutes thanks to Lee Jones. Eastbury then equalised in the last minute of normal time when captain, John Massala, latched onto a through ball from Michael Jan to slot past the Cardinal Heenan goalkeeper.

With no further goal scored in extra time, the tie was settled on penalties. South East England Council Member, Phil Harding, was on hand to present the winner’s trophy.
