Lancashire County Schools’ FA were crowned champions of the ESFA Under 18 Inter County Trophy after they overcame Hertfordshire, 5-4 on penalties, on Thursday 07 April at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.
World Cup referee, Howard Webb, kindly agreed to referee the match at Hillsborough to the delight of the players, officials and spectators from both teams.
Lancashire soon took the lead on 10 minutes when Tom Kilifin headed home from inside the penalty area. Steve O’Conner levelled the scoreline on 72 minutes when he slotted past Lancashire keeper, Ryan Hallworth.
With no goals scored in extra time, the tie was eventually settled on penalties.
