Malet Lambert School - Kingston Upon Hull SFA

The evening kick-off was the second of two finals that the English Schools’ FA had staged at a sun-soaked Burton Albion Football Club on Wednesday 06 April 2011.

In front of a large and vociferous crowd, both teams began the match at a high tempo, but it quickly became apparent that Malet Lambert School (Kingston Upon Hull SFA), with several county players on show, were going to make it a difficult evening for Broadlands School from Bath & North East Somerset SFA.

The animated crowd did not have to wait long for the deadlock to be broken as Malet Lambert’s inspirational striker, Danny Chambers, controlled the ball when it fell to him in the Broadlands’ penalty area and side footed past keeper, Conor Harrison, with aplomb.

Two minutes later, Tom Dungworth made it 2-0 with an unstoppable 25 yard drive which nestled into the top corner of the net.

By now Malet Lambert were opening up the Broadlands defence with alarming regularity displaying some slick movement and skill. They nearly increased their lead on 15 minutes when Jack Varney headed over from close range following a long throw in.

A rampant Malet Lambert made it 3-0 on 25 minutes courtesy of Kieran King who smashed home from close range.

Broadlands substitute keeper, Rob Taylor, replaced Harrison due to injury. It wasn’t long before he called into action as he saved at the feet of Danny Chambers after he ran through one on one, on 27 minutes.

Danny Chambers scored his second of the night on 32 minutes from inside the box to make it 4-0 before the interval.

Broadlands came out from the break a more determined unit and forced Malet Lambert to defend far more frequently than in the first period. However, Malet Lambert nearly increased their lead on 50 minutes when Brad Ricketts curled a free-kick from 20 yards that skimmed the top of the Broadlands’ crossbar.

Broadlands’ Jordan Hawkins fired a shot wide on 60 minutes, quickly followed by Ross Smitheram’s free-kick which fell into the arms of the grateful Malet Lambert keeper, Luke Kinsley.

Ben Clappision grabbed the fifth goal for Malet Lambert, when he headed home following a corner on 64 minutes. Danny Chambers nearly grabbed his hatrick on 75 minutes but his effort was well saved by Taylor.
