Ben Tozer
Former England Under 18 Schoolboy International, Ben Tozer, was part of one of the biggest shocks in League Cup history last night, as his colossal performance at the heart of Northampton Town’s defence helped the ‘The Cobblers” take the mighty Liverpool to extra time (2-2 aet) and eventually win 4-2 on penalties at Anfield.
The win means that the League Two team will be in the Round Four Draw (last 16) on Saturday lunchtime’s Sky Sports Soccer Saturday at 12.15 pm.
Ben played for the England Schools’ team during 2007 and made 4 appearances against Belgium, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. He was also a member of the Devon County Schools’ FA team at various age groups.
Tozer is currently on loan from Newcastle United where he signed from Swindon Town in January 2008, penning a four and a half year contract. The transfer fee involved was believed to be around £1 million.
Another former Under 18 England Schoolboy on the score sheet last night was Chris Smalling as he netted in Manchester United 5-2 win at Scunthorpe United.
