Chris Smalling and Victor Moses were both included in Stuart Pearce’s starting eleven last night in a match which saw England Under 21s run out comfortable 2-0 winners against Uzbekistan Under 21s at Ashton Gate.

Both Chris and Victor had high profile schoolboy careers; Smalling as an England U18 Schoolboy International in 2008 and Moses who once famously scored all five goals for Whitgift School in their 2005 ESFA Under 14 Schools’ Cup Final triumph at Leicester City’s Walkers’ Stadium.

Smalling had already featured for the England Under 21s on four previous occasions and played the full 90 minutes last night. However, it was Moses’ first Under 21 cap, although he has represented England at U16 (1 cap), U17 (12 caps) and U19 (11 caps) levels before.

With Fabio Capello a keen observer following England’s disappointing World Cup campaign, the young England players enjoyed a fairly one sided encounter and finally broke the deadlock on 64 minutes thanks to Spurs’ striker, Danny Rose. Liverpool’s Martin Kelly sealed the match on 77 minutes with a towering header.
