U16 Girls’ Cup Final: William Farr 2-0 Thomas Telford

William Farr School (Lincoln & Gainsborough SFA) lifted the ESFA Under 13 Schools’ Cup for girls after they overcame Thomas Telford School (Telford & Wrekin SFA) 2-0, in a closely fought contest at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 05 May).
William Farr School started nervously infront of hefty vociferous support from Thomas Telford School, but they soon began to settle and grew in confidence as the first half wore on. The deadlock was broken by William Farr’s Martha Harris on the half hour mark as she latched onto a through ball and slotted calmly passed the advancing Thomas Telford goalkeeper, Jade Durnall.
The second half remained in the balance for long periods as both teams pressed forward. Martha Harris was particularly influential as she pulled the strings for the team from Lincolnshire. William Farr eventually clinched the game in the final moments of the match as Caitlyn Lynch raced clear and showed great composure to round the keeper and coolly side-foot home.
The ESFA Chairman, Paul Rickard, was on hand to present the trophy, in what was another excellent advert for Schools’ Football.
