Chris Smalling’s career continues to develop at an extraordinary rate. The former Kent County Schools' FA and England U18 Schoolboy representative player, made his England U21 debut against Holland during Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw at the Euroborg Stadion, Groningen, after coming on as a substitute for Everton's Jack Rodwell on 58 minutes.
Chris, just 19 years old, played for England U18 Schools last year at Wembley Stadium against Scotland, scoring one of the goals in a 2-0 win for the hosts. At the time he was playing for Maidstone, but since then he has signed for Fulham Football Club where he made his debut against Everton in the Premier League on the final day of last season. Chris came on for Aaron Hughes for the final fifteen minutes at Craven Cottage.
Chris has already caught the eye of the England U20 selectors after he impressed against Italy on 2nd April when he played 45 minutes at Loftus Road in a 2-0 win for the Three Lions. Smalling will be in contention for the squad which travels to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt this September.
