Trinity School’s Under 13 side continued their magnificent run in the English Schools’ FA Minute Maid Cup with a 4-1 victory over Sandwell Academy from Walsall at Meadow Lane on Tuesday 29 April.

Although they had a difficult journey, Sandwell started well and shocked the Nottingham school when the giant Feron Sayers latched on to a through ball and wrong-footed keeper Oliver Pannell with his shot. Trinity quickly drew level when Louis Greenway-Tambini ran on to a defence splitting pass and calmly pushed the ball past the keeper.

After 15 minutes, Trinity went into the lead for the first time when Jovan Mullings received the ball with his back to goal, turned on to his own overhead kick, controlled it well and shot past Josh Plant in Sandwell’s goal. Sandwell were occasionally menacing through Sayers and Ryan Hillier but Trinity took a 3-1 half-time lead when Joseph Dodoo broke down the right, cut in on goal and shot for the far corner. Plant half saved the shot but Greenway-Tambini was on hand to push the ball home.

Sandwell started the second half at a high pace and brought two good saves from Pannell who was first forced to tip the ball round the post after a fine effort from Sayers and then blocked a close range shot. John Adams was supporting the attack well and after another threatening move, Trinity made a tactical change with Dodoo moving to centre half from midfield and Williams coming into midfield.

Dodoo won most of the tackles as Sandwell continued to attack but it was Trinty who settled the game as a fine headed clearance by Williams was passed between three players before Mullings was put clear and his unselfish and perfectly timed cross gave Greenway-Tambini the chance to complete his hat-trick.

Having won the Nottinghamshire and Midland Minute Maid Cups, Trinity will now be going for a hat-trick when they meet the northern champions , St Thomas More School (Northumberland), in the National Semi-Final at Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park on Tuesday 6 May.
