England U18 Schoolboys 2007

The English Schools' Football Association is delighted to announce that they will celebrate the Centenary of Schools' International Football with a match against Wales at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club on Friday 4 May.

It was on 13 April 1907 that schoolboys from England and Wales gathered at Walsall Football Club for the first ever international match at this level. The teams that contested the match were:

ENGLAND

W. Hayne (Manchester)
E. Tomkins (Rushden)
A. Cornell (Nottingham)
H. Sherwin (Walsall)
R. Musgrove (Sunderland)
L. Grant (Reading)
L. Denyer (West Ham)
E. Hodgkinson (Sheffield)
J. Lawton (Derby)
W. Lockett (Dudley)
E. Taylor (Newcastle)

WALES

T. Williams (Wrexham)
W. Farmer (Barry)
W. Jennings (Barry)
P. Jeans (Cardiff)
S. Hughes (Wrexham)
J. Fearby (Cardiff)
W. Woodhall (Wrexham)
E. Parr (Cardiff)
J. Pryde (Wrexham)
W. Saunders (Barry)
F. Keenor (Cardiff)

Two members of the Wales team were later to take part in memorable FA Cup events.  Billy Jennings played for Bolton in the first Wembley final in 1923, and Fred Keenor was in the Cardiff City team that took the Cup out of England for the only time in 1927.

The English Schools' Football Association would like to trace descendents of these players so that they may be invited as guests on 4 May, when once again Wales will provide the opposition to the current English Schools' team.

It is hoped that many former England Schools' International players will be able to be present on 4 May to join the celebrations, share memories, and look forward to the next century.  All those who have represented their country in international matches under the control of the English Schools' Football Association (Under 15 until 1998, and Under 18 from 1965) are invited to contact either Sue Gifford on sue.gifford@schoolsfa.com or David Lailey on 01256 881517 to register their current address.
