Despite several matches falling victim to the poor weather at the weekend, many of the Round Three matches in the ESFA U15 Inter Association Trophy, sponsored by the National Union of Teachers, did manage to get played.

Bishop Auckland made the trip across to Carlisle on Saturday morning after comprehensively beating East Durham 8-1 in Round Two. A first half strike by Andrew Cook on twenty minutes broke the deadlock for Bishop Auckland. The score remained 1-0 to Bishop Auckland at half time interval. Bishop Auckland secured their passage into Round Four thanks to Darren Simpson’s goal on 60 minutes that completed a 2-0 win.

Sunderland also eased into the last 32 with a 4-1 win over Hambleton & Richmond. Although it wasn’t all plane sailing for the north-east outfit as the scoreline suggests. With the scores level at 0-0, the match was finely balanced for what was promising to be an exciting second half in wet conditions. Liam McManus netted on 42 minutes for Sunderland only to see his goal cancelled out by Hambleton’s Tony Honeyman on 52 minutes. No further goals in the second half meant that the tie went into extra time. Sunderland began to dominate proceedings in extra-time and added a further three goals to their tally, thanks to efforts by Liam McManus, Jon Nicholson and Ryan Graham.

Grimsby claimed the local bragging rights as they overcame East Riding 3-0 in the Humberside derby played at East Hunsley School on Saturday morning. Second half goals from Keil Thompson, Josh Gale and Andy Allott ensured a safe passage into Round Four.

Coventry had an impressive 2-0 away win at Wolverhampton thanks to first half goals from David Freeman and Danny Blackwell.

Sefton also had an impressive away win as they travelled to Wigan. Once Sefton took an early lead on 10 minutes they dominated the game an ran out comfortable 4-0 winners. The goals came from Ian Turner, James McCarten, Michael Owens and Lewis Coding.

Goals from Dale Kelly, Jamie Hunter and Nick Nutton secured a 3-1 away win for Barnsley against Manchester to set up another away tie against the winners of Leeds and Bradford in Round Four. Bradford beat Oldham 2-1 in a Round Two game, which took place on Saturday, behind schedule, due to the match being postponed on three previous occasions. The Round Three match between Leeds and Bradford will now be played next Saturday (3 Dec).
