Greater Manchester Schools' FA

The Greater Manchester County Schools' Football Association came into being in 1974 as a result of local government reorganisation.  It is made up of the ten areas that used to make up Greater Manchester County before further reorganisation took place.  It is a busy association which runs twelve leagues and cup competitions in a season, as well as fielding representative teams at U16 (Boys and Girls) and U18 age groups.

Since its inception it has enjoyed several successes in national competitions.  The U19 team has won the Inter County Trophy three times in 1983, 1990 and 2004.  The U16s have won the competition in 1989 and 1994 and were beaten finalists in 1985 and 1995.  The 1989 team was captained by Ryan Giggs (Ryan Wilson as he was known back then) and won by a record breaking 8-2 margin.
