School Sports Partnerships
As we enter the new school year, 2006/2007, there are over 400 School Sports Partnerships that provide a professional delivery of school sport and PE to over 5000 secondary schools and 20,000 primary schools. Currently there are 20 Competition Managers employed around the country with a specific remit to ensure that school sports competitions are organised. Over the next few years the number of Competition managers will increase to cover all areas of the country.
The English Schools' Football Association has been delivering inter school and representative competition for over 100 years and has the remit from the Football Association and DfES to provide a comprehensive competition structure based around the recently issued Competition Framework. PDMs and Competition Managers will shortly be receiving a copy of the E.S.F.A 2006/2007 Handbook which details all the National competitions and the contacts in the 418 Local District Schools' Football Associations who will manage the local competitive football between schools and provide for local representative teams. The 44 County Schools' Football Associations provide countywide competitions for schools and the next tier of representative opportunities.
If the new Competition Framework is to work to the advantage of all the students in our schools PDMs, Competition Managers and indeed other outside agencies such as County FA or local Authority Football Development Officers must approach the appropriate schools' football association (local or county) in advance of any arrangements being made for authorisation and sanction.
PDMs and Competition Managers are welcome to contact the ESFA HQ in Stafford if they need any advice on football matters (insurance, Laws etc) or are unable to contact the local schools' FA secretary.
