Sir Alex Ferguson paid lucky pupils at Broadoak School a visit to officially declare its new community sports site – the Partington Sports Village – open for use.

Broadoak School, based in the Trafford area of Manchester, were awarded £1m from the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity, towards developing brand new state-of-the-art sports facilities, which will benefit pupils and local people alike. The school were awarded an additional £150,000 from Sport England as part of the Community Club Development Programme (CCDP).

Previously, sports provision at the school was severely limited due to the lack of facilities and safety concerns. The facilities at the site that Sir Alex will be unveiling include:

  • a brand new full sized 3G Artificial Grass Pitch with floodlights and fencing
  • a redeveloped 70 x 30 Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)
  • drainage and upgraded grass pitches
  • a new pavilion with four teams’ changing rooms, two officials’ changing rooms, coach education/meeting room, ICT sports suite/coach education, office, reception and improved car parking.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager of Manchester United Football Club, said: “I am delighted to see these first class sports facilities open on the doorstep of Old Trafford, especially as they are in an area of high deprivation which desperately needs sports provision.
